Today’s elections will determine which direction this country is headed.
All across our country, most Americans oppose government intrusion in their lives, value the importance of faith and family, and honor our military. They are tired of being taxed too much for a government that delivers too little. This sentiment is overwhelmingly apparent as I depart NJ and head for VA.
Republicans understand these concerns. Judging from their choices in policies and leaders, Democrats don’t. Voters are reminded of this as Democrats seek to expand government, raise taxes, hurt small businesses, and deny school choice (and thus opportunity) to impoverished families victimized by failing schools.

As I write this on Election Day 2009, I am struck by the importance of the women’s vote in today’s elections for governor in New Jersey and Virginia.
According to Rasmussen Reports polling on October 29th, John Corzine was favored by just 46 percent of female voters in New Jersey. Contrast this to 2008, when CNN exit polling showed Barack Obama won more than 58 percent of the Garden State’s female vote. That 12 point swing could be enough to put Republican Chris Christie over the top.
The story is the same in Virginia. In 2008, Barack Obama won 53% of female voters there. But this year, Rasmussen polling on October 27th shows Democrat gubernatorial candidate Creigh Deeds with just 47% of the female vote.

Today is my favorite day. Why? Because it’s Election Day…
It’s my favorite day because the Republican Party’s message affirms faith in the individual. Americans are intelligent people who, when empowered to keep their own money and make their own choices, are best able to build a good life for themselves and their families. Election Day is an opportunity for Americans to elevate more representatives to public office that believe and represent this core principle.
That’s why I am now headed to Parsippany-Troy Hills, NJ, to join you, the grassroots, in support of our statewide and legislative Republican candidates.
